BOOM! the location of the Ruiz-Joshua rematch has been officially confirmed! SAUDI ARABIA 👀!!
Unfortunately, Eddie Hearn did not listen to my plea
I wanted an easy trip to Baja to see this fight, going to be a little harder to get to Saudi Arabia.
Without a doubt this is the biggest news in boxing and it’s exciting to see the promoters and network take such big gambles on stages like this for such an important event. Another reminder that the heavyweight boxing division is back!
Quick heavyweight division refresher:
Andy Ruiz Jr vs. Anthony Joshua 2 goes down on December 7th, (for Ruiz WBA, IBF, WBO, IBO* titles)
Deontay Wilder vs. Luis Ortiz 2 goes down on November 9th, (for Wilder’s WBC title) this is another rematch fight. DO NOT sleep on Ortiz, my only warning.
Tyson Fury is set to fight opponent Otto Wallen next, yawn!
Dillian Whyte busted for PEDs on July 20th after victory over Oscar Rivas. Investigation still not over.
*not one of the big 4 “organizations” that matter
That’s the scoop on the big name heavyweights that really matter right now, could always be wrong but we’ll find out together. We’re lucky to have to hot heavyweight fights to finish out the year in Wilder-Ortiz 2 and Ruiz-Joshua 2.
If you’re looking for a good fight to watch this weekend, my suggestion is tomorrow night on DAZN
One match up I’m really interested in seeing and one KO artist I’m expecting to see have an honest challenge. Here’s what it is.
Aug. 10: Grant Prairie, Texas (DAZN)
- Vergil Ortiz Jr. vs. Antonio Orozco, 10 rounds, welterweights
- Joshua Franco vs. Oscar Negrete, third fight, 10 rounds, bantamweights
- Hector Tanajara vs. Ezequiel Avilez, 10 rounds, lightweights
The Joshua Franco – Oscar Negrete fight is of interest because this is a developing Southern California rivalry (both not from CA, but they train here, from Texas and Colombia respectively).
There first fight was a Draw.
The second fight, Joshua Franco won a close, controversial victory.
This time they are going for number 3 and it’s going to be in Joshua Franco’s home state.
Vergil Ortiz is a young man on a tear. This Golden Boy prospect is 13-0 with 13 knockouts but he faces a strong test in Antonio Orozco (28-1). I think this is good match making. Orozco won’t crumble like the prior 13, but if Vergil is able to craft the win, it’s a good look for the development in Golden Boy’s product …er prospect.
That’s all this week folks, enjoy your weekend.
If you tune in tomorrow, enjoy the fights! and if you’re like me let’s hang tight for November, December were it’s Heavyweight Heaven. 💯
